IS IT GENIUS? IS IT SUFFOLK?
Surely the biggest problem with Space Cadets is not the fact that it is a hoax, but rather that it will be Johnny Vaughan's smug chops revealing the truth to the bogus astronauts (should any of them remain untwigged)? The choice of him as presenter has sent out a clear signal that, regardless of what Channel 4 are proclaiming, Space Cadets is going to be a smug and nasty bit of television. Just imagine how the programme would sound if, say, Dermot O'Leary was presenting? It's a totally different prospect, isn't it? Unfortunately Vaughan conjures up an image of a production team made up of an army of jeans-hanging-of-the-arse, directional haircuts pissing themselves at how damn funny they are. Let's hope one of the contestants is sufficiently irate to punch Vaughan in the face.

You didn't read the piece in the Guardian Guide on Saturday by a member of the production team, pissing himself at how damn funny he is, then?
Sadly, given that we know their "friends and family" have given consent for the "joke", I have a feeling that the contestants will end up being the kind of people who'd just love being pranked by good ole Vaughany. The kind of people who use the phrase "beer goggles".
I also don't see what it is we're supposed to be watching for. Surely the success of BB, IACGMOOFH, SCD and so on relies a lot on rooting for a winner, but where's the "winner" here?

No I didn't catch that Guardian piece. Funny that we're all looking at this series in the context of other reality shows when in many ways its most obvious predecessor is something like CANDID CAMERA, upon which the notion of declaring a winner at the end was totally irrelevant.
However, clearly C4 do see this as an offshoot of Big Brother and it's ilk. I think potentially the best thing about SPACE CADETS might well be other people attempting to break into the series and ruin the joke. TV programmes about getting on other TV programmes are quite popular at the moment, so surely SC is going to be a target.
Well I hope so anyway. Christ, I'd even welcome a big Sun sponsored fly by with banner.
