DOCTORIN' THE SCHEDULES
When will Doctor Who be back on telly? Well, there are a few possible dates floating around - but none of them seem to be Easter. This week, TV Times has stuck its neck out declared it'll defo be March. I'm going to try and be more specific than that and predict March 24. This is based on various bits of gossip that have come my way and, er, some guesswork.
March 17 has to be out, for two reasons. The mighty Dancing on Ice will reach its finale that night (if my sums are right), something Who doesn't want to cross. And, so I'm informed, Wales take on England in the rugby that evening, with a 5.30pm kick off.
I had heard a rumour that, yes, the 17th was the original plan, meaning the two-part Dalek story (which is third in the running-order, isn't it?) would play out as a double-bill over the Easter weekend. Where a 24th start date would leave that notion, then, I'm not sure.
Have you heard anything?

SFX claims that their next issue 'goes on sale on Wednesday 14 March, perfectly timed to whet your appetite for the show's return...'. That points to the 17th at the earliest. DWM previews Smith and Jones in the March 1st issue, which suggests it's not going to be on the 31st. That's all I know.
If it starts on March 24th, and the Dalek story is third, that would go out on the Easter weekend - which is April 7th. Due to rugby-related reasons, the 24th is the absolute earliest it could start, I'm saying.
Dalek story is supposed to be episodes 4 and 5, ie there's three single episodes before them... (Smith & Jones, Shakespeare Code and, er, episode 3, the Face of Boe one)
Agree that first episode is unlikely to go up against the Dancing on ice finale, although having Wales v England on before would provide a nice ratings inheritance (and show could start 7:15/7:20ish, as some series 2 episodes did).
So, clear as mud, then. I bet the beeb haven't even made up their mind yet. It's ooh weeks away.

Ooo, Steve Berry's got sources! Anyway, the Who press officer has told me that the 24th hasn't been confirmed, but "that's the date we're working towards".
