SCHEDULE REEL
ITV1 are revamping their weekend line-ups, then. With Coronation Street and Emmerdale returned to weekdays (two eps of the former on Friday nights, an hour-long edition of the latter on Tuesdays), how do the first new-look Saturday and Sunday evenings stack-up? Well ...
Saturday 12 January
3.05pm Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
5.45pm ITV News and weather
6pm All New You've Been Framed
6.30pm Harry Hill's TV Burp
7pm Primeval
8pm Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Celebrity
9.05pm Thank God You're Here
10.05pm Shaun of the Dead
Note, Thank God You're Here, Paul Merton's new improvisational comedy show based on an Australian series, is OTT's tip to be axed after three weeks.
Sunday 13 January
3.30pm Lewis (repeat)
5.30pm Local news and weather
5.45pm ITV News and weather
6pm Dancing on Ice
8pm Heartbeat
9pm Dancing on Ice: The Skate Off
9.30pm Kingdom
So there you have it. Sunday looks particularly strong. I wonder what they'll squeeze in once DOI drops down to hour-long episodes. Wild at Heart?

Why are television programmes so long these days? The final of Bob Says Opportunity Knocks in 1987 was fifty minutes long and had ten acts in it. Now Dancing On Ice is two and a half hours long.
I'll agree with you about Thank God You're Here is going to be dropped, that's completely the wrong slot for it, it should be on a weeknight. And again, an hour!

Completely different topic altogether. Your site's opinion of Extras in the end of year review was interesting. Just about every other one I've read has been positive, if not entirely laudatory.
I don't think critical opinion will swing against Ricky Gervais for this episode - I think it worked remarkably well in many parts. Yet it didn't hit the heights of Series One - rather, it has exposed Gervais more visibly as someone who wants to have it both ways, criticising celebrity and fame whilst simultaneously revelling in all the fame and acclaim that such criticism gives him (which, in turn, allows him to accomodate so many celebrities in Extras). It's a fine line to walk and your opinion suggests that he's crossed it.
For me the show is rescued from its occasional self-indulgence by the cultural significance, sometimes painfully funny moments and performance of its cast. How good a find has Ashley Jensen been?
That, and the conclusion has stuck true to what Gervais and Merchant said about Andy Millman - he didn't want anything out of life.

Thanks Si. I wrote the bit about Extras in the review of the year, and I have to admit I have been surprised that there hasn't been more of a negative reaction to what I thought was a really over-cooked and self-indulgent bit of telly. For what it's worth, I thought the first series was okay, but then it all got a bit ropey, with lots of Andy-has-a-run-in-with-a-disabled/gay/midget
etc. I also think the stars sending themselves up gag has now been done to death. The Xmas special, I thought really was the last straw, particularly with Gervais railing against Big Brother viewers - it's only a TV show for goodness sake.
